Our Farming
Tea used to be drunk as a medicine a long time ago, and now it has been found that Japanese green tea has many health benefits. Our basic what is to produce Sayamcha without chemical materials as much as possible. Since our family started the tea cultivation, we have been trying to reduce the usage of chemicals. In 1989, we opened the Special Cultivation area (Tokubetsu-saibai), and since 2003, our detailed agricultural journal has been viewable on our website. All of our effort is to provide safe, tasty and high quality products to our customers.
Our Effort
Our farm is about 2.3ha – this is not big at all. But we have expanded to this size as we control from the beginning to the end, cultivating to retail. We also put effort into developing new products, such as the tea with Drip Filter, Benifuki Sencha, Chatchaka Cha, Catechin Tea, Autumn-Winter Bancha, and so on. We are trying to create products that meet our customers’ needs, especially the products that have more health benefits.
Our Future
I, Yasuhiro Yokota, the 5th generation of Yokota-en (tea garden), has been working on our family garden since 1980. We have developed many new products – Tea products by single cultivar, drip bag teas, natural flavored tea using tea flowers… now together with my son, Takahiro Yokota, the 6th generation, Yokota-en is making the effort to create more products with tea. We just started to sell sweets such as cookies and cakes using our Sencha and Hojicha locally, and those sweets are gaining more and more popularity.
